🏓 Eastern Kentucky Table Tennis (EKTT) Official Championship Title Rules

Effective Immediately

Eastern Kentucky Table Tennis is proud to unveil its newly realigned singles and doubles championship structure. The following titles, organized by prestige and competitive level, are designed to foster competitive play, recognize excellence across rating levels, and maintain consistent title defenses throughout the calendar year.


🥇 EKTT Singles Championship (Top Singles Title)

  • Eligibility: Players rated 1100 or higher

  • Match Format: Best 4 out of 7 (Best of 7)

  • Prestige: Highest singles title in EKTT

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the first meet of each month

    • Champion must defend against the #1 ranking points contender

  • Forfeiture Policy:

    • If the champion misses a defense and does not make it up within 20 days, the title is vacated

    • The top two ranking points contenders will compete for the vacant title at the next scheduled meet after the 20-day period


🥈 Inter-County (I-C) Championship

  • Eligibility: Players rated 1100 or higher

  • Match Format: Best 4 out of 7 (Best of 7)

  • Prestige: 2nd most prestigious singles title in EKTT

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the second meet of each month

    • Always defended by the #1 ranked player

    • If the top-ranked player is competing for the EKTT Singles title that month, the next highest-ranked player receives the I-C title shot

  • Forfeiture Policy:

    • If the champion misses a defense and does not make it up within 20 days, the title is vacated and the top two contenders will compete for the title


🥉 Regional Championship

  • Eligibility: Players rated strictly between 900 and 1099

  • Match Format: Best 3 out of 5 (Best of 5)

  • Prestige: 3rd most prestigious EKTT singles title

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the third meet of each month

  • Forfeiture Policy:

    • If the title is not defended within 20 days, the title is vacated

    • The top two ranked contenders will play for the title


🏅 Challenge Championship

  • Eligibility: Players rated between 600 and 899

  • Match Format: Best 2 out of 3

  • Prestige: 4th in singles hierarchy

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the second and fourth meets of each month

  • Forfeiture Policy:

    • If the champion fails to attend a scheduled defense, the match must be made up within one week

    • If not made up, the top two contenders will play for the vacant title


🎖️ Cruiser Championship

  • Eligibility: Beginners to low intermediate players

  • Match Format: Best 2 out of 3

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the second and fourth meets of each month

  • Rematch Option:

    • If the champion loses, they may request an immediate rematch on the same night


🏆 Doubles Championships


🥇 EKTT Doubles Championship (Top Doubles Title)

  • Eligibility: Open to all rating levels

  • Match Format: Best 4 out of 7 (Best of 7)

  • Prestige: Most prestigious doubles title in EKTT

  • Title Defense:

    • To be defended weekly based on good faith effort

  • Forfeiture Policy:

    • If not defended within 20 days, the top two ranked teams will play for the title


🥈 Inter-County Doubles Championship

  • Eligibility: Open to all rating levels

  • Match Format: Best 3 out of 5 (Best of 5)

  • Prestige: 2nd in doubles title rankings

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended weekly, also on a good faith basis

  • Forfeiture Policy:

    • If not defended within 20 days, the title is vacated

    • The top two contender teams will play for the title


General Title Defense Notes

  • Eligibility Ratings: Players must be within the rating ranges specified unless attendance or participation requires exceptions

  • Contender Selection: If a title contender does not show, the opportunity passes to the next highest eligible ranked player

  • Ranking Priority: For singles titles, ranking points determine challengers; for doubles, team rankings or previous performance will guide selection

  • Vacated Titles: When titles are vacated due to failure to defend within the required time frame, the top two eligible contenders will play for the title at the next available meet

🥇 EKTT Singles Championship (Top Singles Title)

  • Eligibility: Players rated 1100 or higher

  • Match Format: Best 4 out of 7 (Best of 7)

  • Prestige: Highest singles title in EKTT

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the first meet of each month

    • Champion defends against the top ranking points contender

  • Forfeiture:

    • If the champion misses a defense and fails to make it up within 20 days, the title is vacated

    • The top two ranking contenders will compete for the vacant title at the next eligible meet


🥈 Inter-County (I-C) Championship

  • Eligibility: Players rated 1100 or higher

  • Match Format: Best 4 out of 7

  • Prestige: Second most prestigious singles title

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the second meet of each month

    • Played by the #1 ranked player, unless they are competing for the EKTT Singles title that month

  • Forfeiture:

    • Same as EKTT Championship: 20-day defense window or the title is vacated and played for by top two eligible contenders


🥉 Regional Championship

  • Eligibility: Players rated strictly between 900 and 1099

  • Match Format: Best 3 out of 5

  • Prestige: Third-ranked singles title

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the third meet of each month

  • Forfeiture:

    • Title must be defended within 20 days, or the top two eligible contenders will play for it


🏅 Challenge Championship

  • Eligibility: Players rated between 600 and 899

  • Match Format: Best 2 out of 3

  • Prestige: Fourth-ranked singles title

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the second and fourth meets of each month

  • Forfeiture:

    • If missed, the champion has 1 week to make it up

    • After that, the top two eligible contenders play for the title


🎖️ Cruiser Championship

  • Eligibility: Players rated under 600

  • Match Format: Best 2 out of 3

  • Prestige: Entry-level singles title

  • Title Defense:

    • Defended on the second and fourth meets of each month

  • Rematch Rule:

    • If the champion loses, they may request an immediate rematch on the same night

  • Focus: Designed for beginners and low intermediate players to gain competitive experience

🥇 EKTT Doubles Championship (Top Doubles Title)

  • Eligibility: All rating levels welcome

  • Match Format: Best 4 out of 7

  • Prestige: Top EKTT doubles title

  • Title Defense:

    • Should be defended weekly on a good faith basis

  • Forfeiture:

    • If not defended within 20 days, the top two teams compete for the vacant title


🥈 Inter-County Doubles Championship

  • Eligibility: Open to all ratings

  • Match Format: Best 3 out of 5

  • Prestige: Second-ranked doubles title

  • Title Defense:

    • Also defended weekly, based on good faith effort

  • Forfeiture:

    • 20-day rule applies: after that, the top two teams play for the title


🔄 General Title Rules

  • Rating-Based Eligibility: Players must fall within the rating ranges listed unless exceptions are needed due to attendance

  • Ranking & Contenders:

    • If a designated contender is absent, the opportunity passes to the next highest eligible player or team

  • Vacated Titles: If any title defense is not completed within its required window, it is vacated and awarded via match between top two ranked contenders

  • Ranking System: Rankings are based on league points or standings, maintained weekly


These revised title structures are designed to promote consistent, fair, and exciting competition across all levels of play. Get ready for the most dynamic season yet!
