“Dr. J” Johnny Johnson, one of the greatest players in EKTT history, a Hall of Famer, and the second most decorated player in Eastern Kentucky shocked everyone by making an appearance at Meet 13.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever play again,” said Dr. J. “I’m here tonight as a VIP guest…watcher.”
EKTT President Byron Risner weighed in, “Johnny is one of the best ever. If he were to return, it would be a real game changer for our league. He is a 22-time Eastern Kentucky Singles Champion, and he has held the title for the second most days ever at 534. He’d be on our Mount Rushmore of players, without a doubt.”
Only time will tell if he will return. Will he only play in the Senior division? Will he only compete in doubles? Will he make another run at the big prize?
Dr. J is still ranked third according to our USATT League Ratings for players in Eastern Kentucky (although, he is inactive, so the rating does not apply officially until or if he were to return to active competition).
Come back Dr. J, we need you!
